Having a food allergies is no joke, so today I am going to talk about my story, my instagram page. along with the one book I bought off of Amazon that has helped me greatly. I just want to start off by saying I am so thankful for those who have paved the way on this path of food allergy info, it is what has inspired me to help others in a meaningful way as well. To start, my journey begin three years ago when my youngest was born. Before that point I lived a relatively care free lifestyle when it came to my hubby, kids and I's eating. That all changed on the morning I decided to eat a bowl of cereal with cows milk while simultaneously breastfeeding my newborn at the time. As I munched away happily on a quick bite, I accidently happened to drop a few drops of cows milk on my newborn babies leg, and let's just say what appeared on her tiny fragile leg really caused me a great sense of worry. To my horror, she had huge welt in every spot the cows milk had touched, and with her little hand she was desperately trying to itch. I immediately put two and two together and came to the realization that my baby was "sensitive to dairy." I had not yet realized she was fully allergic, even with the evidence. This was her at 6 months when I finally realized she was allergic for "real" to dairy.
This is the stage where you start introducing them to new foods. The new food of the day was Cheeto Puffs! ( I know they are not the healthiest, don't judge!) But she absolutely loved them, she ate about 4 puffs and on the 4th one I noticed something odd... her lip began to get big, her lower lip to be exact. That filled me with dread, I rushed her to the emergency room, where they promptly administered her benadryl. Since that experience we have now come to to have benadryl on tap and we have since discovered her allergies to peanuts, nuts, coconut and dairy. She has outgrown her sensitivities to eggs, weat and soy. Discovering her food allergies caused me to change a lot of things, partly because everything I ate she got through my milk and if I consumed something she was not supposed to have, she would be itchy hours after. So through my journey of trial and error I decided to start my page on instagram top8allergyfreecooking its for those who need guidance like myself and I also started this blog. My next endeavor is cookbook to truly help those who are experiencing the journey that is food allergies. Last, the one book I found super helpful when this all took place was The allergy free pantry by Collete Martin. This book was such an eye opener to all the alternatives that we have at our finger tips for allergy friendly cooking. It helped me have more hope and gave me pressing food solutions needed to please everyone in my household. We have come a long way since the beginning of this journey my little one is now three pictured down below and we could not be more happy. Our whole family has plenty of options and so do you, it is just important to find helpful resources like my instagram page! Cheers to your journey and mine and most importantly you are not alone. ππππππ
Sincerely,
K. Marie
